TWENTY YEARS OF ENERQOS

20 Years of Energy,
Innovation and Growth

The story of Enerqos is the tale of a journey that began in 2006 and has continued through growth, innovation, and transformation. From solar pv to energy efficiency, all the way to its integration into the Ameresco Group, Enerqos continues to develop solutions for the energy transition in Italy.

Key Milestones in Enerqos' History

2006

The origins of Enerqos

Enerqos was founded in 2006 in Monza by a group of friends and entrepreneurs from Tuscany led by Giorgio Pucci, an engineer with experience in the technology, telecommunications, and industrial sectors. From the very beginning, the goal was clear: to develop a company capable of combining technological innovation with high-quality services in the energy sector. It was during those years that the Italian market began to grow rapidly, and Enerqos chose to invest in the development, construction, and management of photovoltaic systems.

2009–2014

The Years of Growth

The entry of Climate Change Capital Private Equity (CPE) as a minority shareholder supports the company’s growth trajectory. In recent years, Enerqos has expanded its presence throughout the country, invested in the monitoring and management of systems, and contributed to the growth of the solar pv sector. The period concludes with over 130 MWp of photovoltaic systems installed across the country, consolidating the company’s position as one of the market’s most active operators.

2015–2019

The transformation into an ESCo

The evolution of the energy market has led Enerqos to expand its expertise beyond solar pv. The partnership with Greenville and the subsequent acquisition have enabled the company to integrate new capabilities into energy efficiency and the management of White Certificates. This transition marks Enerqos’s transformation into an ESCO, with a service offering increasingly focused on improving customers’ energy performance—rather than merely on the construction of energy systems.

2020–2022

Decarbonization and New Markets

Enerqos continues to evolve and is expanding its scope to include energy retrofit for buildings and decarbonization. The ZEB (Zero Emission Buildings) business unit is launched, dedicated to energy efficiency upgrades projects and emissions reduction for private and public buildings. During the same period, Aquila Capital, a leading German asset manager focused on investments in renewable energy and infrastructure, became a shareholder with a 37% stake.

March 2023

A New Chapter

In 2023, Enerqos became part of Ameresco (NYSE: AMRC), an international group that provides integrated solutions to ensure reliable energy and modernize infrastructure. This transaction strengthens Enerqos’ presence on the Italian market and opens access to a global-scale technology portfolio and financial capacity.
