Energy retrofit and seismic retrofitting of three buildings, without ever interrupting patient care.
THE CHALLENGE
Approximately 8,600 m² distributed across three buildings constructed in different eras, systems to be renewed, curtain walls to be replaced, and the need to also intervene on the load-bearing structure.
One constraint loomed large over everything and determined every design decision: patient care could not be interrupted. In an operational healthcare facility, you don’t clear out a wing just for the sake of construction site. The seismic retrofit—which is typically carried out when the building is empty—was planned in phases along with all the other measures measures.

The solution
Enerqos handled the entire project, from energy audit to completion: design, management of the permitting process and tax incentives, and execution of the measures.
The work was carried out in phases on the three buildings, which were constructed in different eras, while keeping the Institute’s operations running throughout the duration of construction site.
- 108 kWp solar PV system with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

- Replacement of curtain walls with a double-skin system, glass sunshades, and integrated greenery

The Results
The intervention produced measurable improvements in energy performance, structural safety, and the comfort of patients and staff. The renovated complex supports the Institute's mission with modern and fully accessible spaces.
