TWENTY YEARS OF ENERQOS

20 Years of Energy,
Innovation and Growth

Enerqos' story is a journey that began in 2006 and has evolved through growth, innovation, and transformation. From solar PV to energy efficiency, and through its integration into the Ameresco group, Enerqos continues to deliver solutions that advance the energy transition in Italy.

Key Milestones in Enerqos' History

2006

The origins of Enerqos

Founded in Monza in 2006, Enerqos was created with a clear vision: to combine technological innovation with high-quality energy services. As the Italian renewable energy market rapidly expanded, the company focused on the development, construction, and management of solar PV systems, establishing a strong foundation for future growth.

2009–2014

The Years of Growth

The addition of Climate Change Capital Private Equity (CPE) as a minority shareholder accelerated Enerqos' growth and market expansion. The company strengthened its presence throughout Italy, enhanced its monitoring and asset management capabilities, and played an active role in the development of the solar PV market. With more than 130 MWp of installed photovoltaic capacity across the country, Enerqos established itself as one of the most active and recognized players in the sector.

2015–2019

The transformation into an ESCo

As energy markets evolved, Enerqos expanded its expertise beyond solar PV. Through its partnership with Greenville and the subsequent acquisition, the company strengthened its capabilities in energy efficiency and White Certificate management. This milestone marked Enerqos' transformation into a certified Energy Service Company (ESCo), broadening its offering from renewable energy systems to integrated solutions focused on improving energy performance, reducing consumption, and supporting customers' decarbonization goals.

2020–2022

Decarbonization and New Markets

Enerqos continued to evolve and expand its scope of operations into building energy retrofits and decarbonization initiatives. The company launched its ZEB (Zero Emission Buildings) business unit, dedicated to energy efficiency upgrades and emissions reduction projects for both private and public sector buildings. During the same period, Aquila Capital, a leading German asset manager focused on renewable energy and infrastructure investments, acquired a 37% stake in the company, further supporting its growth and strategic development.

March 2023

A New Chapter

In 2023, Enerqos became part of Ameresco (NYSE: AMRC), a leading cleantech integrator and developer of energy solutions. This milestone strengthened Enerqos’ position in the Italian market while expanding access to global expertise, advanced technologies, and flexible financing solutions to support the energy transition.
